Clarendon Road, W11
You have to admire those intrepid homeowners who go where professional developers fear to tread. There were no fools rushing in here, however, as the experienced owner deftly proved with this stunning renovation.
Acquired just two years ago, the owner undertook a 10-month renovation to transform the 1980s-style interior into a stylish modern flat. Every aspect was thoroughly thought through, right down to the new wooden staircase, glass balustrades and large skylights. This perfectly designed house was accessed via the raised ground floor that served as a mezzanine space overlooking the double-height living room and the private decked patio. Clarendon Road is also one of those covetable roads in Notting Hill that everyone would kill to live on because it backs onto a private communal garden.
The house served as a perfect gallery space for the owner’s contemporary art collection. With some rare Jackson Pollocks on the walls alongside Rothko lithographs and other priceless works of art, the space complimented the art rather than competed with it.
The innovative use of glass flooded the house with natural light. Bi-fold doors led from the kitchen to the patio, while floor-to-ceiling windows light up the study and reception room. The second floor provided two guest or children’s bedrooms, with the third floor dedicated to a large master suite. With off-street parking as well, this was one house that truly ticked every box.
