If you asked a child to draw the quintessential Notting Hill house (okay, we realise this is unlikely, but work with us here), they would probably draw this one. Four, beautifully proportioned storeys tall, with wide rooms and period corbels framing each window, and a porch supported by ionic columns, the house is a Victorian gem. Properties this grandiose and impressive rarely come along.
Inside it only gets better. On the lower ground floor is a huge reception room, a modern kitchen and a laundry room. There’s also a second jacuzzi bathroom downstairs – a much better option than putting one outside where it is freezing half the year. A beautiful conservatory leads out to a large back garden measuring 40‘ x 50’. And did we mention the double garage?
The ground floor has a formal reception room with its original cornicing, picture rails, window shutters and Art Nouveau fireplaces. This floor also featured a library and a guest shower room. The two top floors have four double bedrooms in total, each with an en-suite bathroom. An office also graces the top floor.
The interiors may have been a bit tired but the potential was limitless. We wonder what would become of this property in the hands of some of our favourite architects, such as Michaelis Boyd Associates, Camu + Morrison or Carden Cunietti. Carden Cunietti did the house next door beautifully for Robbie Williams when he owned it and so we would love to see what new ideas they or some of the other architects and interior designers could come up with if let loose here.
To add the cherry on the cake, the house was situated on one of Notting Hill’s most sought after streets with views towards the Victorian church. Amazing. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t on the market for long.
