Architecture
Architecture

There’s an intrinsic clarity to this practice’s architectural finesse, expertly weaving the old and new in each project.

Re-use, re-purpose, re-build – the raison d’être of this forward-looking practice which offers a sustainable solution to preserving heritage sites. At its helm? Founder Jonathan Tuckey. Casting a sympathetic eye over the idiosyncrasies of historic architecture, its light touch sensitively converts historic structures into statements of contemporary design to give aged buildings a new purpose. Their philosophy is manifest in their Urban Barn project, which involved the reimagining of a former industrial site into a light-filled and irresistibly warm house.  Further afield in Piedmont, Italy, their refurbishment of a 200-year-old farmstead into a residential space is a practice in eco-friendly retrofitting. Flick through the rest of their portfolio and you’ll soon discover Jonathan Tuckey Design is equally versed in creating new build structures.

Not afraid to test ideas, this studio creates models and sketches that evolve through constant dialogue. Having studied social anthropology, it’s Jonathan Tuckey’s understanding of how people interact with their spaces that enables him to craft such beautiful and functional backdrops for his clients. Building on the Built, a programme of exhibitions and talks that explores unfamiliar architectural responses to interesting contextual relationships from around the world and close at home.
